Budding Peonies

10/52 Budding Peonies, 6" x 6", Oil on Panel

I like the coffee tones of the background in this one. I did a few paint sketches to loosen up before doing this, but still felt a little tight, so I upped my brush size and took another shot at it. I’m actually quite happy with the brushstrokes on the peony now. I start every painting with the intention of making something loose, but somewhere along the way, I start adding more details.

This painting was worked from a photo rather than from life, generously offered up by@teddiparker. Photos are great for warming up, so I have zero shame!
