Blooming Blessings

48/52- Blooming Blessings, 6" x 6", oil on panel

I painted this as part of The Miller's Habit Forming Flowers class. I love how they simplify flowers as part of their process. I stick with my usual limited palette of Hansa Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson and Titanium White, but I am trying to take onboard their looser brushstrokes.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am starting to count my blessings. I have so much to be thankful for, yet I have a self critical side of me that I can’t completely let go of. It is easy to reel off the many gratitudes of my life and family, but when I look at myself I often only see the flaws.

This time, I’m trying to extend my November blessings to include myself. I instictively cringe at the thought, but it’s time to get mindful enough to bless myself. Painting is the perfect time for being present and I as I worked on this little piece, I gave myself kind affirmations.

Remember to believe in yourself this month; you have so much to give this World xxx
