A New Year starts and I’m looking forward to rebooting the painting challenge for 2021 - 52 paintings in 52 weeks.

Here is a behind the scenes look at my still life set up. My light has 3 main light settings and I usually use the blue daylight setting.

I have a simple process - First stage is the set up, then I premix my palette.

Before painting directly, I make an underpainting, to work out the placement and composition details.

The painting is done alla Prima - all in one go. I am painting in oils, so each piece needs a decent drying time before varnishing. I don’t always varnish, but if I do I wait a minimum of a couple of weeks after painting.

Happy New Year and Here We Go!
